Making Recharge well for Ground Water Recharge

Описание к видео Making Recharge well for Ground Water Recharge

Few decades back, ground water essentially meant water in the Open well. The depth of the well was anywhere between 15 to 50 feet.
The advent of the Bore-well or the tube well pretty much erased the culture of open wells in India.
However, Shallow aquifer or open well still finds a lot of significance in the overall context of water management.

Recharge well is also an Open well. The only difference is , in; a recharge well, we use the cavity(well) in the earth to push the water collected from clean catchments like Rooftops into the ground.

The recharge well pushes the water into what is called an "unconfined aquifer". It is the water available in the soil pores . On consistent recharge into the unconfined aquifer, the soil around the well gets saturated and the water starts to come back into the well making it a source of water.

It is also possible that during the excavation process, one can find water (As in this case) . In such cases that same well can be used for Recharge as well as a withdrawal.

Shallow wells or open wells or unconfined aquifer is an excellent option for rainwater harvesting . Water from these wells have the least energy footprint.

Reviving the culture of open wells will go a long way in ensuring water security and reducing pollution.
