This boss...On the one hand, I hate it. On the other hand, I love how it made me develop a more methodical approach to beating it than other bosses so far, which is probably also thanks to Angela getting her fame here.

Most attacks and moves Lightgazer throws at you are barely worth mentioning. You know something's wrong when its charged, purple-bar-IMA FIRIN MUH LAZA attack (real name: Gush Blast) can be dodged without any rolling by just standing to the side of the arena. An honorable mention goes out to Lucent Beam+ (as always) since you have to delay your roll's timing a bit to escape it. The rest of this boss is pure annoying design; it likes to teleport, jump around and the worst offender is the fact that every time it initiates a jump, it creates a hitbox already at the BEGINNING of the jump. This means that between Lightgazer's attacks, you have to get away from it or you will get hit should it initiate a jump. During certain moments like Gush Blast's preparation, you can expect jumps and it's all fair game, but during the rest of the fight, it sucks.

Another bothersome trait is that this guy, just as Xan Bie's altars, can cast a saber skill on you, in this case Holy Saber. The good thing is that here, they happen based on remaining HP, and this is where the methodical approach comes in. The first Holy Saber occurs after an early HP threshold that's very close to the HP threshold of the first charged laser attack. If you calculate your spells' damage output right, you can skip Holy Saber and make Lightgazer go straight to the charged attack. To do this, you also have to time your "skipping" spell (in this case Dark Force+) in such a way that it hits before Lightgazer finishes its ongoing move, or else it may decide to use Holy Saber even though you may have already passed the necessary HP threshold. The second Holy Saber, at least from my testing, cannot be skipped, but that's ok because I use that time to show how to evade Gush Blast without interrupting it.

Another aspect that required planning and careful execution is Angela's MP management. While her spells in her Rune Seer class do a lot of damage (especially the dark elemental ones), they also burn through your MP quite quickly and her physical attack is not suited to tear Lightgazer down fast. That's why her reclaimer skills are so important to regain lost MP through physical attacks, and I really wanted a back and forth between spells and physical combat for the fight to look more exciting. Sadly, none of the status effects which the Rune Seer-exclusive spells inflict work on bosses, but the dark elemental focus still makes Rune Seer a viable choice here.

Despite its annoying traits, a fun and challenging boss, especially during the planning and testing phase.
