🌍 RimWorld – Survive, Build, and Tell Your Story! 🛠️
RimWorld is a construction and management simulation video game developed by Canadian game designer Tynan Sylvester and published by Ludeon Studios. Originally called Eclipse Colony, it was initially released as a Kickstarter project in early access for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux in November 2013, and was released on October 17, 2018. The game was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as RimWorld Console Edition on July 29, 2022, with development and publishing being handled by Double Eleven. Rather than being a test of skill, the game is designed as an AI-powered "story generator" for narrative adventures.

🚀 Plot
The game takes place in the distant future, where humans are spread across the universe but cannot travel faster than the speed of light. Societies develop in isolation, with a massive range of technological levels—from Neolithic tribes to reality-transcending machine gods. Players start stranded on a procedurally generated planet located on the frontiers of known space, where they must survive and eventually escape. As the colony grows, new characters may join through various methods. To win, players must research and construct a spaceship or find one, then defend it for 15 days as other inhabitants try to seize control.

🎲 Random Event and "Story" Generation
An AI storyteller drives gameplay, adjusting events based on the player's situation for the most interesting narrative. There are three main AI storytellers: "Cassandra Classic", "Phoebe Chillax", and "Randy Random". Players can choose from six preset difficulties or customize their own. Events range from minor animal encounters to major disasters like volcanic winters. The game has two save modes: Commitment Mode (permadeath) and Reload Anytime Mode, where players can save and undo events.

👥 Characters
Player characters (colonists) are indirectly controlled by assigning tasks like building, tailoring, and more, with priority systems. Each colonist has unique backgrounds, traits, skills, and social relationships that impact the colony. In combat, colonists can be manually drafted and directed. Relationships between colonists can positively or negatively affect morale, and characters have mental stability represented by a mood meter. Unmet needs can lead to mental breaks like dazes or berserking. Animals can also be domesticated, forming relationships with colonists, though they cannot be fully controlled. They can be trained to assist in combat or haul items.

🔬 Technological Progress
Players can research tech through stations, advancing from tribal to space-age technology, including power generation (solar, wind, geothermal) and medical, weaponry, and drug advancements.

⚔️ Combat
Combat includes pirate attacks, raids, and other events, with players defending using drafted characters or automated defenses like turrets and traps. Cover mechanics, such as hiding behind trees or walls, play a key role in avoiding projectiles.

🏙️ Colonization
Since Alpha version 16, the game includes a spherical world map, time zones, factions with multiple bases, and the ability to travel and attack other colonies for resources.

🎮 Development
Tynan Sylvester, the lead developer, previously worked on BioShock Infinite. RimWorld was inspired by Dwarf Fortress and Firefly, and first appeared publicly in 2013. A Kickstarter campaign raised $268,132, with the first alpha build released later that year. The game went live in 2018, and the development team grew to seven members, leading to the Console Edition release in 2022.

🏆 Reception and Accolades
RimWorld received "generally favorable" reviews, with high praise for its storytelling and management gameplay. It won Indie DB's "Indie of the Year" in 2016 and Steam's Top User-Rated Game in 2018. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences nominated it for "Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year" at the 22nd Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.

💰 Revenue
By 2018, RimWorld had sold over a million copies, and by 2020, it had generated over $100 million in revenue, making it one of Steam's most successful indie titles.

🚫 Temporary Ban in Australia
In 2022, RimWorld was briefly removed from Steam in Australia due to drug use depictions. After being rated R18+, it was restored.
