Her passion for her selection of songs is evident both in the performances she gives and in the comments she makes in her introductions to the music. The work of French, Spanish and American composers are represented in her program, which includes songs by Duparc, Fauré, Messiaen, Satie, Ravel, Debussy, de Falla and Corigliano. Sylvia McNair was given the choice of the composer when Carnegie Hall recently commissioned a new song-cycle for her. She picked John Corigliano and Mr. Tambourine Man was premièred in February 2000. This sets six very popular folk texts by Bob Dylan to original music and McNair’s performance is compelling.

The live performance is inter-cut with informal back-stage interviews in which Sylvia McNair and Roger Vignoles introduce the program of music. Their lively and informative comments are a real bonus, fostering an appreciation and understanding of the repertoire and giving an insight into the art of the recitalist.
