Описание к видео 500 YEARS OF TURMOIL! PONCE DE LEON LIGHTHOUSE HISTORY!

We visited the Ponce De Leon Lighthouse in Florida to tell it's history, as well as the over five hundred years of history of the inlet that it sits in. It was first referred to as the mosquito inlet, due to it's often stagnant water. The area was first the home of the native Timucuan's who first clashed with the French and then the Spanish. Shortly after the United States gained the area, they built the first lighthouse here in 1835 but it was soon destroyed by weather and the Seminoles during the Second Seminole War.

The area was the scene of Union occupation during the Civil War and the later during WWII, a German U-Boat sank the SS Commodore off the shore form the lighthouse. During prohibition, the inlet was a popular spot for bootleggers giving the law more than they could handle. The Coast Guard even occupied the lighthouse for over three decades.

The area is most known for its shipwrecks all along the coast but the Ponce De Leon Lighthouse has served as a beacon of safety to thousands of souls and no doubt saved countless lives. Here the story of this amazing historical lighthouse here!
