Baker’s cyst is a fluid filled sac which present itself behind the knee as a swelling which can be painful at times. It is called as a baker’s cyst because it was first discovered or penned by a surgeon named William Baker. This baker’s cyst, is caused by excessive fluid inside the knee joints and somehow finds and opening behind the knee and somehow the sac behind the knee gets filled with this fluid. The causes of their baker’s cyst is osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis or degenerative changes in the meniscus. So all these changes will cause excessive fluid in the knee joint as a fluid filled cyst behind the knee. It is also called as the popliteal cyst.
