Classification of enzymes
Enzymes are classified into six classes
1 an oxidoreductase is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of electrons from one molecule, the reductant, also called the electron donor, to another, the oxidant, also called the electron acceptor.
2 A transferase is any one of a class of enzymes that enact the transfer of specific functional groups (e.g. a methyl or glycosyl group) from one molecule (called the donor) to another (called the acceptor).
3 Hydrolases are enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of a covalent bond using water.
4 n enzyme which catalyses the joining of specified molecules or groups by a double bond.
5 Isomerases are a general class of enzymes that convert a molecule from one isomer to another. Isomerases facilitate intramolecular rearrangements in which bonds are broken and formed.
6 a ligase is an enzyme that can catalyze the joining of two large molecules by forming a new chemical bond,
