"Discover the Sacred Sri Aluvang Muneeswarar Temple by the Sea"

Sri Aluvang Muneeswarar Temple (ஸ்ரீ அலுவங் முனீஸ்வரர் கோவில்)

At the onset of the 18th century, in 1858, during British rule, Indians were involved in the construction of the road to Batu Ferringhi and Telok Bahang in Penang. While working on the road, the workers encountered a strange phenomenon: blood appeared to be bleeding from a rock. They also faced numerous obstacles, which they believed were caused by an unknown higher power. In response, they struck the side of the road with an aluvang (a heavy ancient tool similar to a crowbar, used to break ground) and prayed to this higher power for protection. After this, the road construction progressed smoothly, without further disturbances or hindrances.

From that time onward, the Indians believed they were protected by Arulmigu Aluvang Munaindy Ayya, who, according to them, manifested there and began blessing the workers. Over time, Aluvang Muniswarar became revered as a God of protection by the residents of the surrounding area. This temple is unique in Malaysia, as it is the only one situated in such close proximity to the sea. It is also one of the oldest temples on the island of Penang.

Initially, the Aluvang Muniswarar Temple was located close to the road. However, the temple was eventually relocated to accommodate road expansion and development. It was registered with the government in 2010, and subsequently renovated. The first consecration ceremony (Kumbhabishegam) was held on September 11, 2013. Since then, this temple has been known as the Sri Aluvang Muniswarar Temple.
