Wearing a luxury watch to a black tie event has long been a source of contention for members of the watch community, and today, Christian and Rolly tackle this age old dilemma. The traditional wisdom is that you shouldn't wear a watch with black tie at all, because it sends the (arguably rude) message to your host that you care about the time and are looking to turn tail and leave. However, at this point in time, the watch has generally become more of an accessory than a tool in settings like this, and is used more to compliment an outfit than to signify an interest in time. As such, the rules don't really apply in the same way anymore. If anything, something like an Apple Watch would be more akin to the original issue of feeling disconnected from the event you're attending.
