What started as a way to honor the minds behind groundbreaking inventions has additionally grown into a nationwide educational effort.

We're talking about the National Inventors Hall of Fame, whose headquarters are based right here in Northeast Ohio. The organization has inspired millions of students across the country.

In North Canton, the work of the National Inventors Hall of Fame recognizes "inventors and promoting creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship for over 50 years."

"We really wanted to honor people who changed the way we live our lives, but then being able to use these inductees and their stories and really using that as inspiration for the education programs that we've run," said Rini Paiva, executive vice president for selection and recognition at NIHF.

The Hall of Fame has more than 650 inductees — inventors whose stories are shared with students as true science superheroes. The flagship STEM program is Camp Invention, a summer camp reaching 140,000 students each year. The curriculum and materials are developed right here in Ohio, then shipped out to schools and camps across the country.
