A West Virginia woman has been arrested after being indicted for allegedly starving her 11-year-old stepdaughter to death. 51-year-old Shannon Robinson was indicted by a Taylor County jury for murder of a child by a parent, guardian, or custodian on January 20, 2026.

Local outlets report that Robinson is being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail with no bail. Taylor County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Robinson's Grafton home on February 16, 2025, and found a girl unresponsive on the kitchen floor.

Authorities noted that the girl appeared severely underweight and was wearing disposable pull-up diapers. When Robinson was interviewed, she allegedly told investigators that her stepdaughter had exhibited "flu-like symptoms" for approximately a week before the incident.

Authorities say the child had not been given any medical treatment since 2020, when she began living with Robinson. A medical examiner said the 11-year-old weighed just 43 pounds and was 47 inches. The medical examiner determined that this was "grossly inconsistent with her age". The girl also had multiple bruises and wounds, lice, and protruding bones.

Witnesses reportedly told authorities that Robinson would punish the girl by withholding food. She was also reportedly afraid to take her to the hospital because she could be reported for child abuse. The girl became so weak that she was unable to walk.
