In the spirit of Metrolink's 30th Anniversary I have compiled here a collection of various locations of trains I have caught on Metrolink over the past 3-4 years. They are all on my home line, the Metrolink San Bernardino Line. Metrolink is 30 years old, and thus has gone through many changes during its existence. Most notably is the power the trains use. We begin with seeing locomotives of the F59 type on Metrolink, which were their bread and butter for over 25 years. However they also got additional newer MP36 units too to expand service. Then we see the newer power Metrolink has purchased to retire the F59s as some are over 30 years old, and are too old to reliably serve on the network. Since purchasing F125s they also bought 3 FLIRT DMUs for the small Redlands Arrow Service.

The Metrolink San Bernardino Line was one of the 3 original Metrolink lines. It was opened on the first day of Metrolink Operations, October 26, 1992. Back then it comprised of the ex SP State Street Line, and SP Covina Branch trackage, and went as far as Pomona North. However it was envisioned to go all the way to San Bernardino, and it soon got control of the eastern half of the ATSF Pasadena Subdivision, and got to work upgrading it to continue the line onward. Wrestling away control from the LACMTA's wishes, the line was expanded to Claremont on December 7th 1992. On February 22nd 1993 it expanded to Montclair, and on May 17th 1993 it made it out to San Bernardino, and various stations were added in the middle as time went on with the modern line taking shape in 1994 as sidings and double track were added. On January 31st 1994 the Pasadena Subdivision faced an abrupt shutdown, and Metrolink was allowed to expand service with more time for extra trains. In 2015 the line was extended from San Bernardino Depot to San Bernardino Downtown, and again in 2022 to Redlands.

Metrolink runs over 40 trains daily on this line making it their busiest and most prestigious line. Freight service is maintained under trackage rights, by UP and BNSF on the portions of the line that were sold off by their predecessors. Amtrak also has trackage rights on the line owing to their usage of the Pasadena Sub, and every few years the Chief will detour along the line. Freight counts range from 0-2 UP trains a day, and 2-12 BNSF trains a day depending on the day and location.

Locations shot are Covina, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont, Upland, Kaiser, Fontana, Rialto, and San Bernardino, on the Metrolink San Gabriel Subdivision.
