Colin McRae Rally 2.0 - Expert Championship Round 8 United Kingdom

While winning the championship on expert can be pretty hard, I would say the final boss of the game is winning UK on expert. Here McRae is way ahead all the other opponents, and especially on the last stages it's very difficult to beat his times. The Richmond stage in this game is famous for its shortcuts, some of which are very low-risk, which is what gave me the chance to hang on through the first day, before making a run for it on the second day. Now, having won this I'm kind of disappointed I didn't win Greece for the perfect score. Oh well. One more thing from this rally I noticed is the false note on the 7th stage. Maybe it was going to be like the stages in Australia and Kenya where the same stage in reverse has a slightly different configuration, but they removed it just before release.

Generally, this game on PC felt a little easier than on PS1. On the console, I could win on expert, but that usually required lots of retries and saving on every chance. It could be that nowadays I'm simply a more mature gamer and I'm able to concentrate on the pacenotes better. It could also be that, even if the framerate takes a hit when running a recording software, the PC version still likely runs its physics engine at a higher rate, which results in a more precise driving experience - you can place the car more accurately and all the inputs react quicker (apart from the SS stages with that strange lag). One more thing is that the PS4 controller I use is probably a bit better than the previous generation of PlayStation controllers, even when playing a game not designed for it. I'm actually not using the analogue triggers for throttle and brake (I use them for changing gears), but I reckon the sticks alone are better in both accuracy and feel.
