Steve Bannon May Be Headed To Jail After Appeals Court Upholds Conviction

Описание к видео Steve Bannon May Be Headed To Jail After Appeals Court Upholds Conviction

Another one of Donald Trump's friends is moving closer to becoming a jailbird after an Appeals Court upheld the criminal conviction of Steve Bannon for defying a Congressional subpoena. Bannon had been allowed by a Trump-appointed judge to remain out of prison as he appeals the conviction, but he may now be out of options. Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro is currently serving his sentence for the same crime, but he had a judge that was NOT appointed by Donald Trump. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Another associate of Donald Trump has moved one step closer to going to prison after a three judge panel of a federal appeals court ruled late last week that Steve Bannon's conviction for defying a congressional subpoena is in fact upheld. So here's what happened. Steve Bannon, as we all know, defied a congressional subpoena from the House Select committee investigating January 6th, 2021. He and Peter Navarro, by the way, both defied the congressional subpoenas, which is illegal. So both Bannon and Peter Navarro were tried and convicted. Now, Peter Navarro is currently in jail and he has had like all of his appeals smacked down. He actually, on Friday, I think he sent a letter like begging, like, please God, get me out of this hell hole. But no, Peter Navarro is sitting in jail while the rest of his appeals move forward. Steve Bannon, as we all know, is not, and the difference is the judge, Steve Bannon was lucky enough to have his case heard by a Trump appointed judge.

Peter Navarro had an Obama appointed judge. Peter Navarro was not allowed to remain free while he went through the appeals process. Steve Bannon, on the other hand, his Trump appointed judge said, oh yeah, you can stay outta jail while you appeal this, even though of course you were convicted by a jury and you should be going to jail 'cause that's how the justice system's supposed to work. Um, you don't have to do that. Once you've exhausted all your appeals, then we'll see about sending you off to jail. While Peter Navarro is panicking and hating his life, Steve Bannon is still out there producing a podcast every day, and now he's one step closer to possibly joining Peter behind bars because that three judge panel of the appeals court said, absolutely not. There is nothing wrong with this conviction. You have not convinced us that there were any improprieties in this trial.

You lose the conviction stands, but of course that doesn't mean Bannon's going to jail right now because that judge's the first judge's ruling stands. So now Bannon gets to appeal it to the entire appeals court panel, not just a three judge panel. So now we get to do that again, and perhaps after that, maybe he'll appeal it to the Supreme Court. Who knows? He will probably do whatever he can to prolong himself going to jail, which of course is not how the appellate process is supposed to work. The appellate process is in place in the United States for when something goes wrong at your trial that changes the outcome. Nothing went wrong in Bannon's original trial, as I've said a million times. You don't get to just appeal a ruling or a verdict against you

Because you don't like it. That's not how it works. You have to go to the appellate court and say, Hey, listen, I know they said I did it, but we have some information here that suggests that maybe the jury was tampered with. Maybe the decision was coerced from some of the jurors. The judge, you know, made this bad ruling that didn't let us have this evidence in, yada, yada, yada. Those are the reasons we need this appeal. Bannon hasn't done any of that, so this appeal shouldn't have even been heard. The appellate court had the opportunity, they always have the, you know, option to just say, Nope, we're not gonna hear it. Lower court decision stands, but this is the way our justice system works today.
