In the video we take you through each test and summarize our findings with a 1 – 5 star rating after each test.

Here are the tests featured in the video:

#1 Sauté – A straight-forward sauté. We set each skillet to 300°F, waited for them to reach temperature, and tossed in some butter, salt, and a handful of chopped onions, peppers and mushrooms. We assessed this test based on how long the veggies required to soften and brown.

#2 Fry – A double-fry in frying french fries. We filled each skillet with a little over 1” of vegetable oil and let the oil reach 325°F before tossing in our sliced russet potatoes. Then we pulled the fries and kicked the heat up to 375°F before tossing the fries back in for their seconded fry.

#3 Sear – This was all about the sear, not so much the overall cooking process. Here, we took top sirloins and turned each skillet up to their max temperature, then waited 10 minutes and tossed the steak on. After three minutes we flipped the steak and turned each skillet down to 350°F.

#4 Pancakes – We heated each skillet up to medium and made pancakes. We didn’t add any butter or nonstick spray. We evaluated browning, texture, and overall doneness of each pancake. It’s worth mentioning, none of the pancakes stuck to the skillet.

#5 Fish Poaching – Here we used some milk, onions, and various seasonings. Then we heated the skillets to 140°F and added a piece of tilapia. The goal was to monitor how well each skillet would hold closest to 140°F throughout the time that it took to bring the fish to 140°F.

We also analyzed the following:

#6 Ergonomics –This was an ongoing evaluation from the unboxing, testing, and then through to the final cleaning. Throughout the duration of two days we got a feel for the practically, functionality, and overall design of each skillet.

- Ease of cleaning – We conducted the first cleaning test by letting the skillets sit out overnight after the steak sear. The second “test” was our final clean before putting them away. We used hot water, a little soap, and a spray nozzle in order to evaluate which skillets came clean without scrubbing; then we proceeded to scrub the skillets that required a little more attention.

- Heat distribution – Using an IR gun we tested the surface temperature. To do this, we first set each thermostat to 300°F and took readings from the center, side and both ends; we then set the thermostat to 400°F and repeated the same process (see our complete article for a breakdown of the readings).

All of this, then allows us to provide our final summery at the end. Just like America's Test Kitchen, we provide a quick recap of all the data, give our two cents on each model, and then reveal our winning electric skillet.

We also have an uboxing video for each one of the six skillets we reviewed (they will be posted here over the next 30 days).

Thanks for watching and happy cookin’.
