The year is 2013, free to play hasn’t hit mainstream, the legend of zelda shirt and khaki shorts are in, pewdiepie is the biggest name on youtube, the most popular game to be released soon is GTA 5 and the last of us, but hidden in the depths sits a small indie project named “Warframe”. According to Richard Scott Jones of PC gamer, “The concept for Warframe originated in 2000, when Digital Extremes began work on a new game titled Dark Sector. By 2012, in the wake of the success of free-to-play games, the developers took their earlier Dark Sector ideas and art assets and incorporated them into a new project, their self-published Warframe. Initially, the growth of Warframe was slow, it was hindered by moderate critical reviews and low player counts. Since its release, the game has experienced positive growth. The game is one of Digital Extremes' most successful titles, seeing nearly 50 million registered players by 2019”
So You might think that for a guy who has spent over 6000 hours on Destiny 2 alone, has covered plenty of live service games, and has a reputation for documenting great community stories that I would have played Warframe, by now! You might consider this game a quote un quote “destiny killer” a term that might sting if you have played Warframe because.. Well this game has been out longer than Destiny. So.. why did it take me so long to talk about warframe and what will this video be about? It took me so long because it was intimidating to get into. See, for a while Destiny was like comfort food, a game that I know well, a community I know well, and a constant expectation of what I was getting, while Warframe felt like stacking 100 books on top of another until I collapsed with too much information. I was told by everyone while I was streaming the first descendent that I HAD to play Warframe first to see where TFD got its roots and inspirations from, why it made Warframe players upset! To be educated in one department, I had to get my PHD in Tennology. So this video will be a dive into Warframe, a review of how a Destiny player sees the game, an entry into my destiny killers playlist, and I guess you could call it a preview into tfd review from me too!
