Adam Parlin is a postdoctoral researcher. His team analyzed different materials to find out how well they repelled water or aerosolized droplets and found silk was the best fabric at doing this.

Silk won partly because of the silkworm. They appear to have their own superpower: They incorporate copper into their diet and copper is known to be antimicrobial and it's naturally found in their silk.
