Where? HOME CAFE, SALBARI, SILIGURI
A couple passionate about cooking from an early age, Ashika Tamang and Abishek Giri, came to Siliguri all the way from Bengaluru and wanted to begin their own venture towards making their dream a reality, by providing freshly cooked home made food at affordable prices. On 6th September 2019, they started this passion project as "Home Café"‑ an appropriately named café based inside the balcony of a house, serving delicious home cooked food. They are very creative with their recipes, and have come up with ingenious cuisines like Jhol Momo,
and Chicken Keema Noodles (which are some of their specialties).
Home café is their workplace‑cum‑sanctum. They have handpicked everything for the café, from the pottery and plants, to the photo frames and hangers which were made by Ashika's sister. The colour scheme of the café is very vibrant with prominent hues of yellows and splattering of reds, that create an upbeat vibe.
The cozy café is placed inside the SIT campus, overlooking a small stream that flows beside it. It's very peaceful and serene in the morning: you can sip your cup of tea amidst the tranquil sound of birds chirping, or read the newspaper, or leisurely listen to some old Bollywood songs. Ashika and Abishek didn't begin this café with a commercial mindset, but rather with a genuine intent for their customers to have a comfy retreat ‑ to relax and unravel in a home away from home.
They have also opened their fairly new segment called The Gura's Kitchen, that lies on the same route, which I'm hoping to visit soon!
