Our family trip to Lima, Peru, was an amazing experience. We were all excited to be in this vibrant city. Lima is a place where modern life blends with history, and we were thrilled to explore it together.
We began our visit at 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘀, the historic center of Lima. Surrounded by beautiful old buildings, we were in awe of the Government Palace, Lima Cathedral, and the Archbishop’s Palace. From here, we also had a great view of 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹, with its colorful homes dotting the hillside, and the famous 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗼, one of the oldest bullfighting arenas in the Americas. Although we didn’t visit these spots up close, seeing them from afar gave us a sense of Lima’s rich history and culture.
Lima is often referred to as the 𝘨𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢, and for good reason. The city has become a world-renowned food destination, attracting food lovers from all over the globe. Its cuisine reflects a unique blend of influences, including indigenous Peruvian traditions, Spanish, African, Japanese, and Chinese flavors. Lima is particularly famous for its fresh seafood dishes, thanks to its coastal location along the Pacific Ocean. One of the city’s most iconic dishes is 𝘤𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘦 - a refreshing and flavorful combination of raw fish cured in lime juice, mixed with onions, cilantro, and chili peppers. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting Lima.
One of the highlights of our trip was dining at 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹, which was recently voted the #1 restaurant in the world. The tasting menu at Central was an unforgettable culinary experience, where we savored a variety of dishes showcasing the incredible diversity of Peruvian ingredients and flavors. Central takes diners on a journey through Peru’s rich biodiversity, using ingredients sourced from different altitudes - from the coastal sea level to the Andean highlands and the Amazon rainforest. Each dish was a work of art, and it was truly a feast for the senses.
We also visited 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗿, a modern shopping mall built into the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The coastal views were stunning. Next, we explored the 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁, a colorful and artistic area full of street art and historic buildings. We walked across the 𝘗𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦 𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘴 𝘚𝘶𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘴, 𝘰𝘳 "𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘴," where locals believe that holding your breath while crossing will make a wish come true. For fun, we gave it a try! We all held our breath and made a wish, laughing together as we crossed the bridge. The district had a fun and lively vibe, and we really enjoyed soaking it all in.
Lima left a lasting impression on us, and we were blessed to have had the chance to explore its culture, food, and history. Its world-class cuisine, blending tradition and innovation, made the trip even more memorable. It was the perfect way to start our Peruvian adventure as we headed to Cusco and Machu Picchu!
