Hundreds of commuters in San Fernando who depend on public transportation were left to find another means of getting to their destination on Wednesday morning, as bus drivers refused to drive the uninspected buses.

Assistant Secretary of the Transport Division at PTSC Romesh Sonilal says they've been calling on management to have the buses inspected well in advance, however, the vehicles remain without inspection.

The deadline for inspection by the Ministry of Works and Transport was December 31st, 2018. Operating a vehicle after this period without obtaining an inspection certificate, leaves motorists open to a $5,000 fine.

As such, Mr. Sonilal says the drivers are reluctant to operate the buses.
