This is the Santa Clara Business District. It once housed over a dozen store fronts and the independent Dayton Voice newspaper. It now sits in reuins on N. Main Street. Most of the buildings have been abandoned for over twenty years. The last failed attempt to save the Santa Clara Business District was in the early 1990s but was abandoned by 1999. Sadly abandoned buildings are the norm to see on N Main Street. Urban decay from the drugs, prostitution, gangs and the poor have ravaged every part of this area and most of this dying city called Dayton, Ohio. There are pockets of redevelopments for the elite of Dayton, Ohio. Those elites who get millions for things such as the former fairgrounds. And why? Because the former fairgrounds were declared "blighted", a clean grass field with a fence was "blighted". But massive areas of abandoned buildings like Santa Clara sit for decades are not blighted and redeveloped. And it does so because of the elites , (in the case of the fairgrounds it is UD and Mami Valley Hospital ) want to repurpose it for their own needs. And those who are in the elite have no need in Dayton's many ghettos like N. Main Street and the Santa Clara Business District.
