*''Original era manufacture. OK, we haven't a clue as to the actual name or use of this excellent quality edged weapon, but want to say that in the dim (very dim) recesses of my brain housing group, a Navy connotation comes to mind.16.5 inch polished steel leaf shaped blade, single edged. Black painted wooden handle with two brass rivets and a hole for a wrist strap. Black leather scabbard body with brass fittings with a brass metal plaque stating Stockholms - TidningensRikssykttetavling 1943. The S-shaped brass guard has a crack in its surface where the top of the blade meets the grip. Normal age and wear otherwise. Recently a fellow collector in Sweden provided additional information regarding the true identity of this weapon, being a Swedish faschine knife m/1848. He writes;"Its main purpose was to make fashines for the nests the soldiers were in but it was also used as a sidearm in combat. In 1939, when Germany invaded Czechoslovakia, Swedish army units in the south of Sweden was alerted. At Revinge hed in Skne the guards were equiped with this knife. The text on the brass metal plaque on the scabbard means: Stockholm papers national shootingcontest 1943."Hope the information was to any help.''
