Dr. Duraini: Dental hygiene is very important in the aspect at home and in your dental office. At home, you're supposed to do your homework. That's what I tell my patients because I can't go to their houses and brush their teeth for them every night and every morning. I can't floss for them. So their homework is to brush twice a day and to floss daily because there's nothing better than coming to your dentist, having a cleaning, and the dentist gives you an A plus grade if you have no cavities, and no dental concerns. So if you do your homework, take care of your teeth, you will have much easier visits at the dentist.

Doing your six-month follow-ups or cleanings and taking care of your home oral care will help prevent any restorations, be it fillings, crowns, implants that you've had done over the years from failing. The better you take care of them, the longer they will last. If you buy a nice beautiful car and you don't get the oil change, it's going to fail. Our body's no different than an engine. It needs love and care and part of it is brushing, flossing, coming back more often. You've invested all this money into your mouth, be it implants or crowns. Why don't you want to take care of it? Take care of it really well by coming back more often. I even recommend to all my patients that have had implants, come back every three months for cleanings because the cleaner it is, the cleaner your mouth is, the longer your implants and crowns are going to last.
