Presented by the Department of Defense, “The Day That Made A Difference” is a Cold War-era (c.1964) color Civil Defense film. It documents a 1-day shelter stocking efforts by the city of New Orleans and San Francisco. The stories of two complete stocking operations and the public spirited people who contributed their time are told. Narrated by film actor Dana Andrews and featuring an original score by Charlie Byrd, the film offers an overview of the different processes and individuals involved in supplying community fallout shelters across the USA. The film underscores the role of the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (Oakland Naval Supply Center) as a key distribution point for civil defense supply.
