A chant to the divine feminine throughout the cosmos in myriad forms. “Mata” means “mother” in Sanskrit. “Shakti” is the unformed energy throughout creation, usually associated with the feminine aspect of God. “Jai” (or Jaia or Jaya) means “victory.”

The basic pattern of the chant is as follows:
Matashakti, Matashakti, Matashakti, Jaia Mamma
Jaai Mamma, Jaia Mamma, Jaia Mamma, Jaia Mamma

This chant has seven verses corresponding to seven different names for the shakti energy. The first verse using “Matashakti,” the next term for the Divine Mother is “Adishakti” which means the primal or first mother. The third through seventh verses use the following names:

Brahmashkati: the Divine Mother as the energy of the Father or Brahma
Kriyashakti: the Divine Mother as the energy of completed action
Pranashakti: the Divine Mother as the energy of the breath or chi
Shivashakti: the Divine Mother as the balance of masculine and feminine energies
Vedashakti: the Divine Mother as the energy of the sacred scriptures or truth
