MABDR - Full Route Solo | Movie | Mid Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route

ADV Gourmet Video Body Description
This is my 4 day MABDR trip. In this video I travel from Damascus, VA up to Covington, VA on sections 1, 2, and 20 miles into section 3. I see countless deer and other wildlife, encounter thick fog in the morning, and amazing views by lunch. Sections 1 & 2 starts out as easily and then you encounter Tub Run Road! It’s a great trek and helps finish the day on a high note. I ended up finding a golden campsite in the Jefferson National Forest right beside a stream for a peaceful night’s sleep. I show a bit of dinner and relaxation finishing out the day. I then travel from my campsite in the Jefferson National Forest to Moorefield, WV on section 3 of the MABDR. This by far is the best and hardest section of the MABDR, with the exception of the expert sections of sections 7 & 8. It is 191 miles and takes all day to complete. This section also has around 5 to 7 water crossings with three of them major and each one being deeper than the next. This particular week, the area had lots of heavy rain and I chose to run the route in between the weather bans of rain. I was told in Damascus, VA, before I started by a group of riders traveling North to South, that the water crossings were higher than usual and that they did not attempt to cross the first crossing and back tracked around. I eventually found myself at that crossing after going through two water crossings and I had to make a hard decision of whether to continue and cross or back track for 2 hours and recross the two water crossings that I did make it over already. I was very nerves about crossing solo. I hope that you enjoy this partnof my journey on the MABDR. Next I get an early start out of Moorefield, WV and head north onto section 4. A quick jump into Maryland over a toll bridge which was very unique. Do remember to bring your $.50 toll or you don’t get to cross! Once I paid, I was quickly back into West Virginia, as the road crosses over the borders several times. Then I traveled over the Potomac River and back into Maryland before finally ending up in Pennsylvania on section 5. This is Amish country and I enjoyed the rolling hills and farmlands until I got to the mountains. I ended up completing section 5, at lunch and pushed into section 6, not knowing how far I would get. After a bit of rain, I made it to the end of section 6 in McVeytown, PA. There I had a great steak salad at the County Kitchen and headed for a campsite. On the way to camp, I went through a sudden downpour and decided to check into a hotel to dry out for the night and a hot shower.The final day I start out in Amish Country and am quickly into the PA forests. I travel through section 7 and meet my first ADV riders of the trip. A short chat with them and I am quickly off to the next section. Then going from section 7 to 8, I get into some slick roads, more ADV riders, and some beautiful views. Section 8 has some great terrain and I have some fun on the back roads. Super pumped to get into section 9 around 2pm, I shoot for the finish before coming to a road closed sign deep into the last forest. Looking for a reroute I talked to some truckers that showed me a way out. On the route I come to a crossroad and that's when I meet Mike. Mike is a forest contractor and gives me some advice on how to complete my trip, while keeping the integrity of the MABDR. Sweating bullets while finishing up the route I finally come to Lawrenceville, PA and the New York state line for an emotional finish.
