Telamon Consulting’s Todd Hayward says the Australian Commonwealth Games squad haven’t been given a “carrot and stick”.

Athletes heading to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games this year will be clad in RM Williams’ signature Craftsman boots, replacing the boat shoes worn at the previous games.

Mr Hayward argued giving the athletes a pair of $600 boots takes away the “incentive to perform”.

“We won’t win a medal over there,” Mr Hayward said.

“How are we going to win a medal? They’ve already got what they wanted.”
