Norfolk and Western 611: Steam on the Mountain Sub Oct 2023

Описание к видео Norfolk and Western 611: Steam on the Mountain Sub Oct 2023

Its been 30 years since Jack Showalter ran his two beautiful CP steam locomotives on the former C&O Mountain subdivision. This stretch of track between Charlottesville and Clifton Forge, Va is still one of the most underestimated, intimidating, and demanding piece of railroad in the east. The C&O often double headed passenger trains with J3 and K4 type steam locomotives to even make the schedules on the Mountain. It passes over the highest point on the C&O mainline at North Mountain (elevation 2082) with many curves, bridges, and tunnels. N&W class J #611, in conjunction with the Buckingham Branch RR and the VMT, operated over this scenic piece of railroad in the month of October 2023. The introduction scene is one my father filmed in October 1993 of Jacks operation at the Hebron Church in Synder, VA followed by my shot of the 611 on the same hillside 30 years later. I am hoping the 611 can run this line more in the near future! Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video! Thank you!
