Why did the Ford Durango fail so badly?

Coupe utility or utes here in the States aren't around anymore. Every now and again a Subaru Baja will pop up, but that's it. However, from the late '50s, with the introduction of the Ford Ranchero and Chevy El Camino, to the early '80s, utes were fairly popular amongst consumers. With the cancelation of the Ranchero in 1978, there was talk about Ford coming out with another ute. The Ford Durango! Thank you all for watching!!!
