Manatees are considered graceful, gentle giants. These slow-moving marine mammals need our help now more than ever before. Florida’s manatees are in the midst of an Unusual Mortality Event – a larger than normal number of fatalities among a given population – and we’ve seen a record number of deaths this year. Nearly 1,000 manatees have succumbed to various threats, and we (along with many partners) are mobilizing to help protect and care for those that need our support. All month long in honor of National Manatee Awareness Month, we’ll be sharing manatee content so you can learn more about the species and how to help. Stay tuned!
