Hello Beautiful People! Welcome back! Color selection can be challenging for all of us at times, and sometimes you can buy a paint but when you have it in your hands you just dont like it. For me that color is Amsterdam Greyish Blue. My good friend Lee from Masse Art Studio loves this Greyish Blue color and was telling me about how much he liked it, so I got some. Unfortunately as soon as I had it in my hand I hated it. I really like bold colors and this just seemed so wishy washy and blah to me. So I didnt use it and had it down in my old studio. I was down there the other day talking on the phone and it was in front of me and I started thinking about what I would pair it with to make it work, and I thought of the gorgeous deep Indigo, and thought they would work well together. I had done a pour several months back that Lee really liked, Misato, which was a split cup wandering ring pour, so I decided to recreate that pour using the Greyish Blue and Indigo. Lets get started!

I chose colors that I felt would compliment the Indigo and the greyish blue, like the pearl.. and I wanted to use Graphite (another Lee favorite lol) but at the last minute saw a jar of the Folk Art Treasure Gold Antique Copper and decided to add some to the Graphite.. I love how they looked mixed up, like a warm gunmetal color, very cool!
I fill the split cup with my colors, but I am using a 24x24 inch canvas, which needs 21 ounces of paint to cover. Since the split cup holds about 16 ounces, I decided I would put down more of my flow extender, with the intention of tilting off the flow extender and stretching out the design. I used the Amsterdam Pearl White as my flow extender.

I pour the split cup in a wandering ring pour, and begin to tilt it out. Right away I love the parts where there is the dark Indigo background and the pearl and silver are making beautiful patterns on the dark background. I created that effect by moving the cup to one side then the other while doing the wandering ring pour, a serpentine effect.

I tilt it out and realize I like the serpentine effect parts more than the ring pour, and everything feels a little thin, probably because of the amount of flow extender on there.
I am not loving the composition, and I still have paint left, so I decide to tilt most of the paint off and pour it again. I fill up the split cup again and pour it again, this time intentionally going back and forth to create more of that serpentine pattern I like so much. I tilt it to cover the canvas and manage to stretch out the cool parts from the serpentine. HoA tells me that it looks like Jellyroll Clouds.. I like the composition so I stop tilting.

Observations:
1) I think my flow extender and all my colors could have been a bit thicker. Everything moved uniformly but it was moving very fast. If my paint had been thicker the definition of the lines would have been crisper.
2) I used both Pearl White and Silver in the cup. I think I would have a better result if I got rid of one of those two. From my perspective it looked almost all white and silver while I was pouring it. I definitely wanted more of the Indigo and the gunmetal graphite color.
The Greyish Blue does show up but because it is with the darker Indigo and the Gunmetal it shows up and didnt have the opportunity to get muddy, which it would if it wasnt surrounded by contrasting colors. I feel that the excess white and silver dulled everything down a lot, I would have preferred more contrast. If I do it again, I would lose the Pearl and put the Indigo into two chambers instead of just one.

I hope you guys enjoyed this video! Thank you all for being here with us inside the studio. I would love to hear what you think of this pour, and if you have any colors that you disliked as soon as you had them in hand. How did you work with them successfully?

On Sunday I have a great 36x36 canvas that I am very excited to share with you all! I hope you will join me for the premiere for that piece, Sunday premieres are a lot of fun!

Thanks again for hanging out with me and HoA in the garden, we hope you have a beautiful day! We will see you on Sunday!
