“Texas as Art” is a traveling art exhibit designed to engage the public with satellite imagery showing Texas landscapes, ecoregions, geology, and natural resources as works of art. Two themes connect the selected images for the 2021 exhibit tour:

1. Texas’ natural ecoregions and scenes showing the human footprint on our natural landscapes
2. Texas’ state parks, historic areas, natural areas, and wildlife management areas that are scientifically managed, conserved, and restored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The artworks are derived using both the visible and infrared wavelengths of the spectrum.

Rebecca L. Dodge, PhD, Emeritus Associate Professor, Kimbell School of Geosciences, Midwestern State University

Dr. Dodge received her M.S. and Ph.D. from the Colorado School of Mines. Since joining academia 22 years ago, she has been researching and teaching the uses of satellite imagery for resource exploration and environmental management applications. In addition, she is deeply committed to training and educating future science teachers in geosciences, earth system science, and environmental observation techniques, with an emphasis on the integration of field observations and geospatial technology. She has a grant from the U.S. Geological Survey to provide teachers and faculty with geospatial technology training. She is also consulting on teaching resource development with textbook companies and online teaching resource developers. She volunteers in K-12 classrooms through the West Texas Geological Society.
