In this video I show you what happens when you drop
sodium metal in sulfuric acid! Watch and see if the
reaction is bigger with sulfuric acid and sodium metal or
water and sodium metal! I also talk about our new book,
Extreme Garage Science!
Before the bug the 2nd beaker from the left (medium
beaker) was at least 99% sulfuric acid and the one in the
large beaker was around 96 to 98%. The nitric was very
pure 99%+ (anhydrous). The water was from rain collected
over painted steel and the other chemicals (HCI, NaOH &
NH4NO3) were industrial grade.

Create a dehydration reaction using sugar and sulfuric
acid. The balanced chemical equation for this reaction is
C12H22011 (s) + H2S04 (aq) + 1/2 02 (g) - 11 C (s) +
CO2 (9) + 12 H20 (g) + S.
Transcript:
Bearded Science Guy here, and today l'm going to show
you how to make a dehydration reaction of sugar using
sulfuric acid. Start by filling a glass container about 1/3 of
the way full with either granulated or powdered sugar. Now
pour in roughly the same volume of concentrated sulfuric
acid, but be careful. Concentrated sulfuric acid is one of
the most corrosive compounds out there and can cause
instantaneous tissue damage. At this point, carefully stir
the mixture until it's the same throughout, and then watch
what happens. The sulfuric acid breaks apart the bonds
that hold the sugar molecule together, converting it into
elemental carbon and water. But again, be careful because
sulfuric acid is one of the most dangerous compounds out
there, and you need to make sure to use proper safety
protocols. Thanks for watching Bearded Science Guy. If
