Gabe is an autistic teen who has apraxia. That means he is not in control of his body’s movements like speaking and throwing a basketball!
He has been working hard after school with his mom and his athletic trainer on various skills needed to play sports, exercise, and improve his motor planning skills. Since he has been working on these skills he has made so much progress.
Gabe is working on throwing the basketball upwards.
There is a playground called Mattie J. Stepanek Park in Rockville, MD that has an area where individuals with various disabilities can shoot hoops! It’s called the Bankshot Basketball Court!
Gabe practiced shooting hoops, passing, dribbling, and running. He got to try shooting from a variety of hoop heights. There are about 15 different sized hoops to practice on.
Gabe made some great shots for the first time on higher hoops! We are so proud of him!
