2022 British Columbia Moose Hunt - Hunting BC

Описание к видео 2022 British Columbia Moose Hunt - Hunting BC

For this trip, we headed up to the Monashee Mountains of South-Eastern British Columbia for my wife’s Limited Entry moose draw. For this draw, she could harvest either a cow, calf or an immature bull, (spike fork).

Because of limited time this summer, late LEH results and the fact that we were fortunate enough to get 3 separate LEH authorizations this year, I had to rely on e-scouting for this hunt, which proved to be problematic…

I’m familiar with the lower end of this management unit, but had never been beyond 15km up this side of the lake, so I used a combination of google maps, google earth and resource maps to scout out possible locations to focus our efforts on because we only had 4 days to make this draw work since we also have a bison trip to Northern BC still coming up. What I didn’t know, because nothing was date stamped, was that the maps I was working with were probably an average of 3-4 years old. That might not seem like a long time, but when you’re talking about resource roads and unmanaged terrain, that can be a lifetime… what we ended up finding was that many blocks that looked promising on sat maps were too overgrown to hunt effectively, some blocks we found didn’t exist on the map at all, and the main road that connects to the North-West side of the lake no longer does that. So we effectively lost over half of our huntable area and had to regroup and readjust, since the main area I was hoping to focus on was in excess of 10km beyond the end of the main road.
We covered a lot of ground is some less than ideal weather and got very close, but ultimately couldn’t seal the deal.

It’s been a tough season so far, but things are just starting to get good, so stay tuned! The weather’s turned, winter’s here, the birds are coming down and we’re off to chase bison in less than 3 weeks!
