Latter-day Saints believe the U.S. Constitution is divinely inspired because their prophets have stated that God established it "for the rights and protection of all flesh". They interpret this to mean God guided the framers, through their inspired leaders like George Washington, to create a document that provides principles for political freedom and safeguards the rights of citizens. This belief stems from Joseph Smith and subsequent leaders' affirmations that the Constitution's core principles, such as separation of powers and the rule of law, reflect divine will.
