Public Iftar Gatherings in Lahore During Ramadan
Today’s vlog is about public iftar gatherings in Lahore. During the holy month of Ramadan, my dear friend Asim Amin has been arranging iftar meals for fasting individuals at his hotel for the past five years. Philanthropists, welfare organizations, and social activists also take the initiative to provide iftar meals through their self-help efforts.
During Ramadan, Muslims not only fast and worship to seek forgiveness from Allah, but they also try to offer iftar to as many fasting individuals as possible within their capacity. Across Lahore, communal iftar gatherings are set up before Maghrib, where generous donors arrange meals for fasting individuals with open hearts. These iftar gatherings not only offer traditional iftar items but also full meals.
Lahore has no shortage of well-off individuals who spend generously in the way of Allah. As a result, the trend of public iftar gatherings is increasing each year.
Today, we visited my dear friend Asim Amin at his hotel on Davis Road, where he has been arranging iftar for the public for the past five years. With rising inflation, many people are struggling financially. Previously, it was only the underprivileged who lacked access to proper iftar meals, but now even middle-class families are finding it difficult. To maintain their dignity, many choose to have simple iftar meals. Compared to last year, this trend has grown by 300%, with around 2,200 to 2,300 public iftar setups across the city, serving an estimated 2.2 to 2.5 million people. These public iftar tables are arranged along highways, roads, public places, and bus stops to ensure that those in need can break their fast with ease.
