Concussion 101: Myths & Facts

Описание к видео Concussion 101: Myths & Facts

Recently, @hubermanlab  had Dr. Gary Steinberg (MD, PhD —neurosurgeon) on as a guest to discuss brain health. Overall, the episode was great, and the conversation was interesting. However, Dr. Huberman's media team (I'm sure) shared a clip that discussed concussions—and wow, this aspect of the conversation was way off the mark. This is likely because neurosurgeons do not treat concussions. *Before anyone gets mad, I say this because concussion (mTBI) does not require any neurosurgery.

So, for this week's live session, we will have a "Concussion 101" refresher:
What is a concussion (vs. Whiplash)?
What are normal symptom expectations and timelines?
What's the difference between symptomatic recovery vs. metabolic/clinical recovery?
Myths: Loss of consciousness, helmets, and more!
What to do with a suspected concussion & a general overview of treatment options
Do you know why this conversation is NECESSARY? The polarity of ignoring concussion (i.e., this Huberman clip) or thinking every single head impact inevitably leads to CTE (i.e., ‪@ConcussionLegacyFoundation‬) is where we're having trouble. The research is not this black-and-white in either direction.

***The problem of concussion is not the injury; it's the poor management. (Imagine we dismissed other injuries like concussions and then were shocked & alarmed at the long-term outcomes. Silly, right?)

So, with that long preamble, let's get everyone up to speed this week!
