The International Federation of Robotics’ (IFR) World Robotics 2024 report revealed that U.S. manufacturers installed 37,587 industrial robots in 2023, a 5% decrease compared to the previous year. However, this number was still the third highest on record. The total number of robots in use in the U.S. hit a new high of 381,964, reflecting a 10% increase.

The U.S. accounted for 77% of North America's total installations, ranking third globally behind Japan and China. The automotive industry remains the largest market for industrial robots in the U.S., representing 33% of all installations. Despite this, robot sales to the automotive sector declined by 15% in 2023.

Other sectors, such as metal processing and electrical manufacturing, saw increases in robot installations, with an 8% rise in metal processing and a 1% rise in electrical manufacturing.

The report also highlighted the impact of near-shoring, with robot installations growing significantly in Canada and Mexico, driven by automotive industry demand. Canada saw a 95% increase in installations, while Mexico’s automotive-sector robot installations slightly declined by 5%.
