I have always been just horrible at this minigame. Part of the reason is the fact that this minigame is programmed in a way that makes it very easy to inadvertently not be able to score at all.

In fact, you have to constantly pass a certain invisible line, which is continuously recalculated based on the other soldiers' positions, in order to merely be able to increase the TV ratings. Obviously, it is not very hard to unknowingly miss that line.

This setup will finally make this a matter of the past. The only thing you still have to pay attention to is your horizontal position relative to the other two soldiers in the final row. You will have to be at the same horizontal position or slightly ahead of them; do not fall behind or end up too far ahead. Cloud's walking speed is incidentally higher by a little than the soldiers', so he will gradually move ahead of them.

Also, mashing CIRCLE, which will then increase the TV ratings by 3% per closed textbox, does not have to be done excessively fast. Moreover, every 120 frames (about every 4 seconds), the TV ratings will randomly increase by 1% (1/8 chance), increase by 2% (1/4 chance), decrease by 1% (1/2 chance) or decrease by 2% (1/8 chance). As a result, the TV ratings will on average drop by 0.125% every 4 seconds.
