This talk will provide a brief and incomplete history of anarchism. It will start off by examining different ways of conceiving the necessary features of and disagreements within anarchism. Then we will look at some developments and different approaches within anarchism from 1864-1940, followed by a non-chronological summary of anarchism after 1940. This brief history and genealogy of anarchism will end with some critical reflections from a communalist perspective. We will then have a discussion about the history of anarchism and how to retain the best features of it.

Phil Kropotkin is a libertarian socialist organizer and writer. He has participated in and helped start Olympia Assembly, as well as various direct action and mutual aid projects. He has a BA in philosophy from The Evergreen State College.
