This presentation, on a day when the British press were focussing on news about refugees and migrants, was given via Zoom video conferencing to an international audience of some 100 people from around the world.

The talk by Birthe King FRPSL gives a description of the background to, and organisation of, the refugee camps for the approximately 250,000 refugees finding themselves in Denmark as a consequence of World War II.

These were mainly Germans, Poles, and Russians, but also people from the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania with whom Scandinavia has a special historic relationship.

Through the incoming and outgoing letters to and from the refugees, in the envelopes that have contents, social and human history is revealed, not only about daily life in the camps, but also about living conditions in Germany.

The hand stamped censorship markings provide a reliable picture of the number of camps and the amount of mail.
