According to legend, Tipu Sultan and a French buddy were out hunting in the jungle. He encountered a tiger up close. The Tiger leaped on him as his rifle jammed and his dagger dropped to the ground. He picked up the sword and used it to slay the Tiger when he finally managed to reached it. He gained the moniker "the Tiger of Mysore" as a result.
