In this video, I'm driving from the Tenkasi side to Punalur town via NH 744. I haven’t covered the entire highway—this video focuses only on this particular stretch of the route.

Punalur is a municipality located in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. It serves as the administrative headquarters of both the Punalur Taluk and the Punalur Revenue Division. Positioned in the eastern region of the Kollam district, Punalur lies along the banks of the Kallada River at the foothills of the Western Ghats. The town is approximately 45 kilometres (28 miles) northeast of Kollam and 68 kilometres (42 miles) north of Thiruvananthapuram.

National Highway 744 (NH 744), formerly known as NH 208, is a key highway in Southern India that connects Kollam (Quilon) in Kerala to Madurai in Tamil Nadu. It begins at NH 66 in Chinnakkada, Kollam, and merges with National Highway 44 at Tirumangalam in Madurai.

Historically, this highway served as a vital link between the cashew and spice-rich Kollam district and the former Madras State. Today, it sees heavy movement of lorries transporting various goods from Tamil Nadu. The road passes through the scenic low-altitude Aryankavu pass, with the stretch between Thenmala and Sengottai particularly noted for its natural beauty. Running alongside the highway is the historic Kollam–Sengottai railway line.

According to reports and project data from NHAI, the highway stretch between Tirumangalam (NH 44) and Rajapalayam is set to be upgraded into a tolled, four-lane highway, covering a distance of 68 km. Additionally, the segment between Kollam and Sengottai is planned to be developed into a greenfield access-controlled highway.
