Upon rereading Myer's book, The Renaissance of the Vocal Art, 1902, I realized that he had found a method to synthesize everything that the bel canto technique required in a simple but deeply effective gesture: lift, expand , release. Explaining that it is necessary to use light energy and remove any constriction anywhere in the body, he goes further regarding the face, mouth, throat, neck and shoulders. They must be completely devitalized. In that way, the throat stays soft and the sound becomes beautiful.
Myer's books are available for free download on Archive.org. The books are great, but the most important ones are Renaissance of the Vocal Art, where he lays out the complete gesture for the first time, and The Vocal Instructor, where he provides diagrams and exercises to further explain how to master the gesture.
