A certified Jr Heavyweight legend. Starting his career while still in high school, Michinoku joined Michinoku Pro, and was a representative in the 1994 Super J Cup. As he honed his craft, he was one of the brightest Jr Heavyweight wrestler of the new generation. By 1996 he was splitting time with M-Pro and FMW. 1997 saw him go to the United States along with his Kaientai DX stablemates and several of M-Pro’s finest. He became the new WWF Light Heavyweight Champion, defending the belt at Pay Per View events, including Wrestlemania. A brief feud with his Kaientai brethren led to a reunion, but the stable failed to regain their success they’d seen in Japan. By 1999 only TAKA and Funaki remained and they didn’t get much traction. TAKA was eventually released and returned to Japan, opening Kaientai Dojo and splitting time with All Japan and NOAH. He was still brash as ever, and eventually jumped to New Japan. TAKA’s style is a great example of the LuchaResu style that embodies M-Pro in the 90s. His aerial skills are not to be scoffed at, and he can work through mat just the same. The original Michinoku Driver was eventually replaced with a new, more powerful version that brought him worldwide success.
