The Naval Warfare Studies Institute presents the latest in their series of Seapower Conversations highlighting innovations in combat demonstrated on the battlefield during the Russo-Ukrainian War, providing officers and faculty with insights into how warfighting concepts and capabilities are evolving in the 21st century.

In this presentation, Dr. Wenschel Lan, Senior Lecturer, Space Systems Academic Group, describes how the commercial space sector has become an integral partner for the DOD, and the evolution and scaling of commercial satellite systems has been a game changer. The impact of rapidly sharing unclassified data with international partners is highlighted in this talk, as well as how commercial space capabilities have been used to deal with Russian counter-space effects.

Lan is joined by NPS students U.S. Navy Lts. Austin Dumas and Forrest Hansen in a discussion on current research exploring potential uses of the Starlink constellation for future conflicts facing similar challenges.
