The Power Blow and Power Launcher from the previous game have been removed. New is the Break Gauge which sits under the life bar, starting the first round half-full. It can be used in various ways with the Special button (or Hold Plus Punch Plus Kick):

Fatal Rush (Special 4 times): A chain of up to four high strikes that will put the opponent into a Fatal Stun. If the meter is full, the combo will finish with a Break Blow. Some characters have special follow ups from fatal rushes, such as being able to feint into stances, or even cancelling into standard attacks.

Side Attack (Special while 8 / Up Special or 2 / Down Special): A quick attack that can be done while side-stepping. Requires 25% of the meter as of version 1.05.
Break Hold (4 / Back Special): A hold that can be used against any type of strike: high, mid, or low. Requires half of the meter.

Break Blow (6 / Forward Special): A powerful strike that goes through the opponent's attack. Requires a full meter. Can also be cancelled into a Break Blow cancel by pressing H upon successful hit, which allows the player to use the fatal stun status to pursue more combo damage.

The game retains the 4-point hold system which has been standard since Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate, while including the option for a 3-point hold as in Dead or Alive 2, Dead or Alive 3, and Dead or Alive Dimensions. The system in use will always be displayed under the timer.

The juggle Ground Bounce system is also enhanced for the game, allowing players to bound their opponent on the ground for a finisher, with different inputs depending on character. All characters have an attack that does increased damage if done up close to a prone opponent.
