The first debate – in the series – amongst candidates for the California governor seat

CANDIDATES WHO HAVE CONFIRMED – THEY WILL APPEAR AT THIS DEBATE:
1-Joel Ventresca (Democrat)
2-Heather Collins (Green)
3-James Hanink (Independent)
4-Robert Newman II (Republican)
5-David Lozano (Republican) (may attend next week)
6-Daniel Mercuri (Republican) (may attend next week)

CANDIDATES WHO HAVE SAID THEY WILL ATTEND FUTURE DEBATES:
-Reinette Senum (Independent)
-Leo Zacky (Republican)

FORMAT OF DEBATE:
1-Moderator will introduce the debate series (Marc Ruiz Evans)
2-Each candidate will have 2 minutes to introduce themselves (how do you want the voters to see you)
3-1st question will be asked – all candidates must answer
4-2nd question will be asked – all candidates must answer
5-3rd question will be asked – all candidates must answer
6-Candidates will be asked if they would like to comment on other candidates responses to previous questions
7-(IF TIME PERMITS) Each candidate will be able to give a 2 minute speech on the top issue California is facing (in their opinion) and how to fix it.

QUESTIONS MODERATOR WILL ASK – COME FROM:
*We will not release the questions before the debate.
(The audience can tell if a candidate has a canned/prepared response – and it hurts viewer interest in watching a live debate)
-All questions will come from the 2 most recent Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) surveys of California voters
-Candidates will be asked how they would fix or solve the problem that voters have identified to PPIC
