Описание к видео Conic Hill | Balmaha | Highland Boundary Fault Line

Conic Hill is a short but rewarding hillwalk sitting right on the Highland Boundary Fault, just north of Balmaha on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond. At 361 metres, this extinct volcanic plug offers some of the best low-level views in the area and is one of the most popular walks in the Trossachs.

This hill marks the physical boundary between the Lowlands and Highlands, and from the summit you can clearly see the line of islands running through Loch Lomond that follow the fault line.

Views stretch west and south-west across the loch, with Ben Lomond to the north and the Arrochar Alps visible on clear evenings, making this a brilliant spot for a sunset hike.

The walk starts from the Balmaha tourist car park, opposite the Oak Tree Inn. From there, the route heads north through woodland before following a well-established path all the way to the summit.

The climb is steady rather than difficult, and there’s a great viewing plateau around halfway up with superb views back across Loch Lomond.

The route usually takes around two hours return, depending on pace and how long you stop to take in the views. On this visit, conditions were calm with a stiff breeze higher up and a beautiful sunset to finish the walk.

Conic Hill is an ideal introduction to hillwalking in Scotland and a great option if you’re short on time but still want big views. Balmaha itself is well worth spending time in afterwards, especially in summer when the loch is busy with paddlers, boats, and swimmers.
